Omaha resident shot would-be intruder, police say

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say a resident has shot a man who was trying to break into a home in northeast Omaha.

Police say the man in his 30s was shot in the chest around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday and found by officers on a sidewalk a few blocks away from the home. He was taken to an Omaha hospital.

The resident told police the man had tried to get in through the front door, and Lt. Catherine Milone told the Omaha World-Herald the door was "pretty banged up where he was trying to get in."

Omaha Police said Wednesday morning that the man died at the hospital.

The names of those involved have not been released.
