Omaha Royals' new home on schedule for early 2011 completion

By Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – The new Omaha Royals baseball stadium is slated to open in time for the club's 2011 season.

Omaha Royals President Alan Stein spoke at the Press Club noon forum last week. He ays the new stadium is a greater Metropolitan Omaha project; the stadium is in Papillion with the contractors, Construction Company and marketing firm all based in the Omaha metro. Stein says so far the stadium project is gaining great momentum, with sponsorship sales for 2010 and heading into 2011 already breaking records.

Stein said about 12 years ago, he did some research around the country at minor league ballparks. Stein says 52% of the people surveyed did not know who had won the game they had just watched. And an overwhelming number said the #1 reason they decided to attend a minor league baseball game was because it was a clean venue. He says that reinforces his belief that though major league baseball is a spectator sport, minor league baseball is a family-driven experience.

KIOS will air the Omaha Press Club Educational Forum on the Omaha Royals' move to Sarpy County in its entirety on Monday, April 5th at noon.
