Omaha Royals' new home on schedule for early 2011 completion

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – The Omaha Royals' new home in Sarpy County will cost $700,000 less than estimates, but still remains over budget.

Sarpy County Board members received an update Tuesday on the new stadium in Papillion. Board members learned recently the costs of the new stadium will exceed $26 million.

But Board Chairwoman Joni Jones says project managers found about $700,000 dollars in savings. "I know that we are obviously over-budget, but every little bit helps and I think everyone's taking a hard look at what they can do to reduce costs and still have a nice ball diamond in the end," Jones says.

Jones says the ballpark is still on schedule for completion by April of 2011. The Omaha Royals move to the new stadium at 126th Street and Highway 370 next year.
