Omaha Royals win final game at Rosenblatt Stadium

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – The Omaha Royals sent Rosenblatt Stadium out with a win Thursday night.

The Royals beat Round Rock 6-2. The Kansas City Royals' triple-A affiliate began play at Rosenblatt Stadium in 1969.

The Omaha Cardinals were the first team to play at Omaha Municipal Stadium, in 1949. The Stadium was renamed in 1964 for former Mayor John Rosenblatt.

The Royals move next season to a new stadium in Papillion. The team will likely have a new name to go along with its new home in Sarpy County. The new name is expected to be announced in November.

Former Omaha Royals players, including Frank White, Willie Wilson, and Dennis Leonard were on hand for the final ballgame at Rosenblatt Stadium.

The UFL's Omaha Nighthawks will play four games at Rosenblatt Stadium this fall.
