Omaha selected to host 2013 U.S. Figure Skating Championships

By Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – The city of Omaha was recently selected as the spot of another major multi-day sporting event.

Doug Parrott, spokesman for the Omaha Sports Commission, says U.S. Figure Skating has chosen Omaha to host the 2013 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. He says though other cities were under consideration, Omaha was regarded a strong contender due to the city's success with the Olympic swim trials. Parrott says the 8-day event went extremely well and U.S. Figure Skating was impressed with how well it was coordinated. He says the U.S. Championships annually attract more than 1,500 athletes, coaches and officials to the host city, "This will be where they pick the world team, competing in the world championships. So it's a very important event. It's the premier figure skating event in the country during that year. And we'll have a chance to see a lot of the figure skaters who the next year will be hoping to go to the Olympics."

The 2013 U.S. Figure Skating Championships will take place January 19th through the 27th at the Qwest Center Omaha.
