Omaha Storm Chasers have a new owner

A day after Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett declared, "It's your team," the new owner of the Storm Chasers was in a polo shirt and surveying Werner Park for the Wednesday afternoon home game.

Gary Green formally introduced himself Tuesday as CEO when the news of the Storm Chasers' sale was announced.  Green, who is based in New York, admitted trepidation about being accepted in Omaha.

He says he expressed his concern with Buffett over a dinner. "What do you think? Was I going to have a problem being an out-of-town owner? He leaned across the table, paused and said, 'Let me tell you something.' When Warren Buffett says 'Let me tell you something,' you listen. You don't miss a word because, if you do, it could change your life."

Buffett says as a baseball fan he felt obligated to purchase a share of the Omaha franchise to ensure its future in Omaha.  But with the construction of Werner Park, Buffett felt it was time to step aside. "Sarpy County had taken care of our obligation for us, so we're now delighted after 21 years to turn it over to a wonderful new owner."

The Storm Chasers also announced the extension of their player agreement with the Kansas City Royals through 2016.
