Omahans encouraged to take measures to reduce ozone pollution

Omahans are encouraged to take alternative transportation over the hot summer months to reduce ground ozone levels.

The Little Steps, Big Impact campaign began Friday. From now until September 30th, you can get 10 ride bus fare cards for half price. Greg Youell, executive director of MAPA, says poor air quality isn’t just bad for health, it’s also bad for business and economic development.

"Most of all, poor air quality affects the health of our citizens. And so we want to educate the public on the little steps we can each take that together have a big impact on our air quality, so we have no issues on economic development in regard to our air quality status and most importantly, that we have clean air for our citizens to breathe."

The Live Well Omaha Commuter Challenge is underway as well. You can log all of your alternative transportation trips, such as walking, biking, or taking the bus.
