Omaha's Cinco de Mayo activities begin Tuesday

An NPR journalist will speak in Omaha this week as part of Cinco de Mayo festivities.

Cinco de Mayo kicks off Tuesday with a luncheon and speech by Maria Hinojosa, the host of Latino USA. Hinojosa says she’ll talk about the changing dynamics in the U.S.

"I want to help people understand how people are reacting to this change, this moment when our country is changing rapidly in ways that are really historic. I want to celebrate the people of Omaha and Nebraska who have been directly engaged in this process. But I also want to recognize that for everyone it’s not necessarily an easy thing, and change is hard."

Other Cinco de Mayo events include a comedy and culture festival, parade, and the first Spice of South O, a food festival. Complete information is available at www.cincodemayoomaha.com.

Hinojosa will also speak at UNO on Wednesday.
