OPD has new website

The Omaha Police Departmentunveiled its new website on January 1st.

Public Information Officer Michael Pecha says the police department wanted a website that was more up to date.

He says the new website is compatible with mobile devices.

Pecha says with more people using their phones to access the internet, the police department wanted to ensure that the pages were easier to use.

He says they analyzed what pages were visited most often on the old website, and worked to make sure that information was more accessible to citizens.

"People would go on there looking for something whether it was how to request a police report or something else.  And they wouldn’t be able to find what they were looking for on the website so they would just go to the Contact Us section and send us a message asking for more information.  But that information was on the website.  So now we are able to make that information easier to find so they don’t have to go through multiple steps to get that question answered.”

Pecha says the website was completely rebuilt from the ground up.
