Open enrollment period for Medicare plans ends December 31st
By Katie Knapp
Omaha, NE – Seniors enrolled in a Medicare program have until December 31st to change their plan if they want to do so.
A Medicare sign-up event is scheduled for next Saturday in Omaha. Mark Gilbert, Regional Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, says there are several ways to learn about available plans. He says seniors currently enrolled in a plan should have received a letter in the mail. Gilbert says there's also a toll-free hotline, 1-800-MEDICARE, and a web site, www.medicare.gov, where seniors can find plan information.
Gilbert says the premiums on some plans are increasing next year, so he urges seniors to review their current plans. Also, he says there could be better plans available for seniors who are on different medications now than they were a year ago.
Seniors who don't want to change their plans don't need to take any action.
