OPPD approves rate restructuring plan, 4 percent rate increase

The OPPD board has approved a four-percent rate increase and a rate restructuring plan.

Both items were approved at Thursday’s board meeting. The rate structure changes will take effect next June. The residential service charge will increase to $15, then to $30 by 2019. Usage charges will decrease during that time.

OPPD Chief Financial Officer Edward Easterlin says the utility followed several principles while putting together the plan. He says it encourages energy efficiency and is fair and reasonable.

The OPPD more heard more than an hour of public comments on the rate restructuring plan.

Board members also approved a Low-Usage/Low-Income plan that’ll provide monthly bill credits for residential customers through  May 2020.
