OPS and UNO partner to host Culture Fair on Sunday

By Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – UNO's Service Learning Academy is partnering with Omaha Public Schools to present Culture Fest 2011 this Sunday.

Lucy Garza-Westbrook is with the Service Learning Academy. She says the event gives the community the opportunity to celebrate the diversity of cultures in Omaha. Additionally, Garza-Westbrook says event organizers want the students who attend to see that being global citizens is integral to understanding and finding their place in the world. She hopes they all walk away with an appreciation and respect for one another's cultural heritage, "so all of the schools that are involved in this particular project have global studies or the arts as their magnet areas and then all of the schools also have dual language programs."

The Omaha Public Schools participating in Culture Fest 2011 are Crestridge Elementary, Beveridge Middle and South High Magnet Schools. Culture Fest 2011 will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. this Sunday in UNO's Milo Bail Student Center Ballroom.
