OPS to bring in consultant for superintendent search

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – The Omaha Public Schools district plans to bring in a consultant to aid in the process of finding a new superintendent.

Board members voted late Monday afternoon to hire a consultant for a national search. The move comes after Dr. John Mackiel announced his retirement last week. Mackiel is leaving OPS next August after nearly four decades with the school district.

The board also voted to form a subcommittee to handle matters relating to the search for a new superintendent. That committee will report to the full board of education.
