Outlook Nebraska's new 7.1 MILE Rewinder.

An Omaha manufacturer with a workforce primarily of blind or visually impaired employees is expanding its operation.

Outlook Nebraska held an open house Friday to showcase its new 7.1 MILE Rewinder. The company employs 62 people, 42 of whom are blind or visually impaired.  Outlook Nebraska makes toilet tissue and paper towels. The product is sold to the government.

The Rewinder, made by Italian company Fabio Perini, was adapted to meet the needs of a visually-impaired workforce. It gives verbal instruction to blind employees, and has flat screens with large text. The machine takes large rolls of recycled paper, turns it in to eight and a half foot logs, and then in to four-inch rolls.

Outlook Nebraska also hired 15 new employees in the past year.
