Pedestrian Bridge to open at end of September

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – The Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge is two weeks away from opening.

Saturday night, Omaha and Council Bluffs officials, along with former Nebraska Governor and U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey, celebrated the lighting of the bridge. It's the only pedestrian bridge linking two states, and cost $22 million. Kerrey secured an $18 million federal earmark for the project.

Kerrey says he's thrilled to see the bridge. He hopes it's used by people living in one state and getting to the other for work, or for families to discover new things on both sides of the Missouri River.

The pedestrian bridge opens September 28th. A ribbon cutting ceremony happens at noon that day in Council Bluffs' Playland Park.
