Pirates and Mermaids anchored at the Omaha Children's Museum

Pirates and Mermaids: Voyage to Creature Cove is the newest exhibit on view at the Omaha Children’s Museum.

Kim Reiner, Marketing and PR Manager for the Museum, says the exhibition is interactive with five animatronic sea creatures and a 40-foot pirate ship with canons and two crow’s nests for kids to climb.

Reiner says the Omaha Children’s Museum designed or contracted out every piece of this exhibition.

And she says after the exhibit closes on September 4th, Pirates and Mermaids will be available for other museums to rent out.

"We will have a lot of touch tanks with a lot of real sea creatures.  So in addition to imaginary play, they can encounter starfish and urchins.  And we will have two programs where they will be able to do that.  And we will have a program on aquaponics to teach children about how fish can help grow lettuce and we will actually be able to sample it once it’s grown.  We will have a fresh water and salt water tank with more sea creatures.”

Reiner says the Children’s Museum will offer daily programing led by pirates and mermaids that includes storytelling, jewelry making and shell identification.
