Plowing, cleanup of residential areas to begin Wednesday in Omaha

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Crews are continuing to plow Omaha streets, with snow removal in residential areas to begin Wednesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service says Omaha received 9.4 inches of snow. More than a foot of snow was reported at the Weather Service office in Valley, and Lincoln received 8.2 inches of snow. A news release from the city of Omaha says major streets are passable, but residents are urged not to travel.

Public Works crews will begin clearing residential areas around noon, with additional clearing happening Thursday.

Road conditions are still hazardous due to blowing and drifting snow. The Nebraska Department of Roads urges anyone who must travel on major highways today to use extreme caution.

In Iowa, road conditions in many spots are poor. Crews are working throughout southwest Iowa to clear roads of snow.
