Poet Erin Belieu Opens UNO's Writer's Workshop Reading Series

The Writer’s Workshop Reading Series at UNO kicks off on Wednesday, September 9th at 7:30 p.m. with a reading by poet Erin Belieu.

Belieu’s first book, Infanta, was selected for the National Poetry Series.  Next week she will be reading poems from her latest effort, Slant Six.

Belieu graduated from UNO and studied at the Writer’s Workshop.  She says it’s nice to be coming home.

Belieu says though she usually knows in advance what poems she will read, she also takes the audience into account when doing a reading.

"Some of my work can also be a little salty so if there are kids there sometimes I will make last minute adjustments.  I try to offer a mix of serious poems versus humorous poems.  So I am trying to ring a lot of bells when I do it and give people a lot of different versions of the poems that I write.”

Belieu says she works in a number of different registers.  She will read her poems on Wednesday, September 9th in the Art Gallery of the UNO Weber Fine Arts Building at 7:30.

There is no charge to attend.
