Police: Nebraska man killed by officers trying to avoid jail

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A 29-year-old Nebraska man who was fatally shot during a confrontation with police in Lincoln told officers he wouldn't go to jail.

Lincoln Police released more details Monday about the incident Sunday that left two officers injured.

Police Chief Jim Peschong says one officer was shot in the arm and another was punched while being held in a headlock during the incident.

The officers were investigating suspicious activity in the northeast Lincoln neighborhood when they found the man who had a felony arrest warrant.

Peschong has not released the identity of the man from Central City because his family has not been notified.

Both officers will be on leave while the incident is investigated.
