Police: Officer injured at Nebraska tailgate

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Lincoln police say at least 13 people were taken into custody when a football tailgate turned violent and injured an officer before the weekend's Cornhuskers game.Officers were called to the Indian Center on Saturday afternoon after reports of people throwing cans and bottles at buses. Capt. David Beggs says the crowd turned on officers, who called in backup from county and state authorities. He says a female officer was hospitalized after being hit in the head with a full can of beer and that two police cars were damaged.

Beggs says the officer was released and is recovering. He says the man who threw the beer is facing a felony charge of assaulting an officer. Some of the others apprehended were given misdemeanor failure to disperse citations.
