Premiere of Documentary Focusing on Poverty in Omaha takes place tomorrow night

Together, Inc. commissioned the documentary Out of Frame: Unseen Poverty in the Heartland to bring awareness to the issue of poverty in Omaha.

Mike Hornacek, Executive Director for Together, Inc., says the film premieres at Aksarben Cinema tomorrow night at 5:30.

Hornacek says Together, Inc. wanted the film to be real and personal.  The film shares the stories of four individuals and their families.  He says not all the stories have a happy ending.

"Somebody gets fairly ill throughout the filming process.  They’re in great shape now but there were some concerns along the way and so there are some specific examples like that where we didn’t know the outcome of what the process would be as we went through filming but it’s very eye-opening because of that.”

Hornacek says all of the individuals who appear in the film are people who Together, Inc. is serving. He says they all tell their stories from an advocacy perspective.

Hornacek says 28-30% of the city lives around the poverty range, a statistic many may find surprising. He hopes the film may be used in the future as an educational and advocacy tool.
