Prison worker may have provided phone to inmate who escaped

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Investigators have been told a prison caseworker provided a cellphone to a prisoner who later escaped with another inmate from the Lincoln Correctional Center.

The investigators think the prisoner, Timothy Clausen, used the phone to set up plans for his escape June 10 with Armon Dixon. Dixon was caught the next day in Lincoln. Clausen was captured June 15 in Omaha.

A court document filed in Douglas County says the information about the cellphone came from another prisoner, but his reliability has been challenged by a state corrections spokesman, Andrew Nystrom. Nystrom says he can't otherwise comment on the investigation other than to say no prison caseworkers or officers have been disciplined in connection with the smuggling of a cellphone linked to the escapes.
