Project Extra Mile supporting new legislation

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – Project Extra Mile is supporting two new bills in the Nebraska Legislature. One would extend the state's Dram Shop/Social Host law to allow victims or families of victims of all drunk drivers to sue the seller or provider of the alcohol in civil court. A similar piece of legislation became law January first involving the rights to sue sellers or providers who sell or give alcohol to minors. Project Extra Mile Executive Director Diane Riibe says the legislation gives victims or families of victims another outlet in which to seek relief from the courts. She hopes the legislation will make sellers or providers think twice.

Riibe says Project Extra Mile is also supporting legislation creating a primary seatbelt enforcement law in Nebraska.
