Project Homeless Connect Omaha Opens Doors

Project Homeless Connect Omaha is looking for volunteers to work as one on one advocates for the homeless on April 1st.

Ed Shada, President of Project Homeless Connect Omaha, says the homeless can attend the event from 8 to 2 at the Kiewit Fitness Center at Creighton University and take care of a variety of needs.

Shada says the event is held as a first-step intervention to assist those that are homeless in getting out of the predicament they’re in.

He says attendees can get help with everything from outstanding warrants to housing and healthcare.

"I send buses to the shelters to pick up the homeless in the area, anywhere from Council Bluffs to Fremont and bring them back to Creighton University where I pair them up with a volunteer who is responsible for being their advocate throughout the day to get them through 40 service providers and healthcare which includes medical, dental, optical, physical therapists, psychological and even haircuts.”

Shada says volunteers are still needed for all shifts, starting at 7:30 a.m. and concluding at 3:00 p.m.

To find more information or to sign up as a volunteer, the website is homelessconnectomaha.org.
