Prosecutor clears Council Bluffs officer in shooting

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — Prosecutors have cleared a Council Bluffs officer who opened fire at a man who police say tried to run down the officer and another.

The Daily Nonpareil reports that Pottawattamie County Attorney Matt Wilber said Monday that Officer Jarrod Poore used justified force on Dec. 23.

The officers had approached a parked Corvette that had been reported as stolen. They say the driver accelerated toward them and struck an unmarked police vehicle, but neither officer was injured. A chase ensued across the Missouri River into Omaha, Nebraska, and 33-year-old Jesse Wilkinson soon was arrested. He was treated for gunshot wounds.

Wilber says Wilkinson faces several charges. Online court records don't list the name of his attorney.
