Public meeting Thursday on 10th Street bridge expansion project

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Construction could begin this fall on a project to widen the 10th Street bridge in downtown Omaha.

Omaha Public Works officials say the 10th Street bridge will be expanded between Douglas and Farnam Streets. That'll allow for wider lanes and a center turn lane. The plan also includes wider sidewalks and new stairs leading to the Gene Leahy Mall.

Downtown Improvement District Executive Director Joe Gudenrath says the expansion is needed in what has become an increasingly busy part of the city. He says a wider 10th Street bridge will help ease congestion between Douglas and Farnam Streets.

A public meeting is set for Thursday at 6 PM at the W. Dale Clark Branch of the Omaha Public Library to get input on the project.
