Omaha, NE – Omaha Public Works employees are installing additional equipment at the Burt-Izard lift station so rain water properly drains from the facility.

Environmental Services Manager Marty Grate says the additional equipment includes pumps to remove rain water. The additional equipment means rain water can be pumped away from the lift station and in to the Missouri River.

A Blackhawk helicopter is online at Eppley Airfield in Omaha, along with 400 1,500 pound sandbags. Those will be used in the event of a levee breach. National Guard soldiers are monitoring Omaha's levee system 24 hours a day, seven days a week starting Monday.

Also, part of Riverfront Drive is closed. Rick's Boatyard Cafe is accessible from the south, and the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge is accessible from the north.
