Rally for a Healthy City comes to Omaha Wednesday

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Health officials hope Wednesday's National Walk at Lunch Day encourages Omahans to incorporate healthy habits into their daily lives.

Live Well Omaha is hosting the "Rally for a Healthy City" Wednesday at 11 am outside the Omaha-Douglas Civic Center. Douglas County Health Department Resource Specialist Phil Rooney says in the year since Live Well Omaha was created, more bike trails, community gardens, and walking clubs have formed. He calls that encouraging, and says it shows people can make individual changes that benefit the entire city.

Rooney says getting the recommended half an hour of exercise a day is as simple as walking during lunch. He says you should also watch what you eat and drink, and choose healthier options.
