Red Cross volunteers responded to more than 400 regional disasters in 2013

American Red Cross Nebraska/Southwest Iowa Region volunteers responded to 437 disasters in 2013.

The Nebraska/Southwest Iowa Region has nearly 4,000 volunteers. Spokeswoman Liz Dorland says those volunteers responded to more than 60 house fires just this month, affecting more than 200 people.

In October, volunteers responded following tornadoes in eastern Nebraska and a blizzard in the western part of the state.

Dorland says regional volunteers also deployed to Colorado, Oklahoma, and Illinois as part of disaster response in those states.
