Omaha, NE – The city of Omaha has closed the road leading to Freedom Park due to rising flood water and motorists driving on the levee.
A news release from Mayor Jim Suttle's office says OPD and Omaha Public Works closed the road Thursday night out of concern for both public safety and the stability of the levee. Freedom Park closed Wednesday, and Suttle's office says flood water is now on the road leading to the park.
Meanwhile, the continued flooding risk has forced Omaha Parks and Recreation to cancel Hummel Park Day Camp for the season. It's the first time in the Camp's 60 year history that it's been canceled. An additional Rec's Kids Clubhouse site will be set up at Walnut Grove Pavilion.
As of Thursday night the Missouri River was above flood stage at 29.3 feet, and rising.
