SafeWise Announces the 10 Safest Cities in Nebraska

Auburn, Wahoo and Blair are three of the safest cities in Nebraska according to the new SafeWise report.

SafeWise evaluates the crime report statistics from the FBI.  They look specifically at violent crimes like murder and robbery and property crimes such as motor vehicle theft and arson.

Sarah Pike, Community Outreach Coordinator for SafeWise, says they review the statistics from both categories reported in each city in the state and from there, they calculate the chances of those crimes happening out of 1000 people.

She says Nebraska stands out in a positive way.

"We found that Nebraska averages about 2.59 reported violent crimes per 1000 people which is about 30% less than the national average.  And FBI crime data also revealed that there was no city on our Safest Cities list in Nebraska that reported more than a total of 9 violent crimes.”

Pike says 90% of the top ten cities in Nebraska reported no murders or robberies.

She says on average, the ten safest cities cited only 11.53 incidents of property crime per 1000 residents.  That’s less than half the state and national average.
