Salvation Army holds a special red kettle campaign

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – Christmas is still five months away, but Omahans may see a familiar sign of that season in several locations this week.

The Salvation Army of Omaha is holding a special red kettle campaign this week to raise money for grocery gift cards. Those gift cards will be distributed to families who lost food during the power outages following last Friday's storms.

Salvation Army spokeswoman Susan Eustice says kettles are set up at Fantasy Convenience Stores, the Nebraska Furniture Mart and some Hy-Vee gas locations. The special red kettle campaign runs through Saturday. Eustice says volunteer bell-ringers are needed.

The Salvation Army hopes to raise at least $25,000 during the special campaign to help families buy groceries.
