Sarpy County Administrator: deal close on Royals move

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – The Sarpy County Administrator says he's very confident that the Omaha Royals will play there in 2011.

The Sarpy County board and Omaha Royals entered in to a memorandum of understanding in December. That memorandum allowed both sides to negotiate in earnest a deal that would bring the Royals to Sarpy County from their longtime Omaha home.

Sarpy County Administrator Mark Wayne says while the deal is still a work in progress, it is close to being done. Wayne says attorneys will be working on the deal through this weekend. The Sarpy County board could vote on an agreement with the Omaha Royals at the March 17th meeting.

Sarpy County is also seeking a site for the Royals' ballpark. A request for proposals brought in 12 sites from nine landowners.
