School staffers to be trained on new professional boundaries

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The Millard school district in Omaha will be training staffers on how to maintain the professional boundaries called for in the district's newly adopted policy.

The Omaha World-Herald reports that the policy approved by the school board is aimed at keeping teachers from getting too friendly with students. It takes specific aim at "grooming" behaviors that could lead to sexual activity.

The training will include how to send messages on a new computer application the district is making available for phones and computers. The app allows for real-time messages that are archived for administrators to retrieve and review.

The new policy bars private, social network communication with a student, unless the student is a child of the employee or a family friend.
