Second Congressional District Candidate wants a long-term energy plan

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – Second Congressional District Candidate Jim Esch says all options should be on the table if America is going to become energy independent.

Esch is challenging Congressman Lee Terry for the second time in the Second District race. Esch says a long-term strategy is needed to address rising oil and gas prices. He says offshore drilling and alternative fuel sources should be part of that plan.

Esch, a Democrat, says high environmental standards are needed if alternative energy sources or offshore drilling become part of a long-term plan. But he says technology is such now that alternative fuels can be created and oil drilled offshore with minimal environmental impacts.

Terry and Esch agree that oil prices are rising due both to market speculation and increased demand.
