Second District candidates to debate twice

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Nebraska's Second Congressional District candidates debate for the first time this week.

Congressman Lee Terry and challenger Tom White debate Thursday at the Omaha Press Club. Terry is seeking re-election to the seat he's held since 1998. White is a Nebraska State Senator.

Terry says the debates are an opportunity for voters to learn the differences between him and White. "They'll be interesting, and even though our ads tout similar things I think we'll focus on our records and you'll see that there's a true difference in philosophies," Terry says.

White says voters will learn through the debates which candidate will best represent the Second District, as well as his commitment to bipartisanship. "Folks are going to see a real night and day difference between Congressman Terry and myself, a very different attitude about what our duties are to the people who elect us," White says.

White and Terry also debate next Tuesday at Bellevue University. As of June 30th, the last date campaign finance reports were available, FEC info showed Lee Terry's campaign had spent $1.3 million dollars. Tom White's campaign had spent more than $675,000 dollars.

The general election is November second.
