Sen. Fischer: farm bill needs to be good policy for Nebraska ag producers

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer says more than 250 amendments have been filed to the Senate’s version of the farm bill.

Fischer expects a vote in the Senate Thursday morning to end debate on the $500 billion, five-year farm bill. Whether any of those amendments will be voted on is unknown. Fischer says she’s concerned about the spending in the farm bill for nutrition programs.

Fischer, a Republican from Valentine, says she’s pleased to see the farm bill include crop insurance and safety measures for Nebraska ag producers. The current farm bill extension expires September 30.

Senator Fischer’s comments came Wednesday during her weekly conference call with Nebraska media.
