Sen. Fischer: questions remain about prisoner exchange

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer of Nebraska says she has questions about the release of Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl.

Bergdahl was released as part of a prisoner swap. In exchange, five detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, were transferred to Qatar. Fischer says the exchange violated federal law.

"It requires the administration to notify Congress 30 days prior to the transfer of any detainees from that facility. These five detainees were important leaders of the former Taliban government, and had previously been deemed too dangerous to transfer, and that was as recently as 2010."

Fischer says the information provided to lawmakers about Sergeant Bergdahl’s release hasn’t been satisfactory, and people need to know the impact of it. Her comments came Wednesday during Senator Fischer’s weekly conference call with Nebraska media.
