Sen. Lathrop to begin statewide tour as he explores a 2014 run for Governor

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska Sen. Steve Lathrop is kicking off his statewide listening tour as he weighs a run for governor.

Lathrop announced that he will visit Plattsmouth on Tuesday to meet with business and community leaders, and attend a dinner at the Plattsmouth VFW. The stop is the first of nearly 20 planned visits to communities throughout the state.

Lathrop, a Democrat, has said he is seriously considering a run for governor in the 2014 election. Current Republican Gov. Dave Heineman is ineligible to run again because of term limits.

Lathrop says the stops will focus on local economic growth and job creation. Lathrop represents an Omaha legislative district that includes Ralston and Millard.

He has formed a state political committee, "Lathrop for Nebraska."
