State Sen. Deb Fischer is the GOP nominee for the U.S. Senate.

The candidates for Ben Nelson’s U.S. Senate seat are on statewide tours of Nebraska.

Democratic candidate Bob Kerrey wrapped up his statewide tour Thursday evening. It began Wednesday morning in Omaha. Omaha is also where Republican candidateDeb Fischer began her statewide tour, following her surprising win Tuesday night.

Fischer says her campaign is about Nebraska values and fiscal responsibility. She supports a balanced budget amendment, and says the federal government needs to do more to help small businesses grow.

A new poll released Thursday shows Fischer with an 18-point lead over Kerrey in the Senate race.

Fischer is a Nebraska State Senator. She and her husband are ranchers in Valentine. Kerrey was Governor of Nebraska from 1983 to 1987. He's also a former U.S. Senator representing Nebraska.
