Former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel goes before the Senate Armed Services Committee this week for his Secretary of Defense confirmation hearing.
During her weekly conference call with media last week, Senator Deb Fischer discussed Hagel’s nomination as Secretary of Defense.
Senator Fischer says she had a private meeting with Hagel last week where the two had what she called a frank discussion.
She says there are some issues her office will follow up on prior to the hearing, but she is withholding her decision until afterward.
Senator Fischer says all Americans have the right to watch a public hearing on any nominee, to see what the questions are, and hear the responses.
"By heading the Department of Defense, the Secretary has the control with the President, over the capability of the military to defend this country so they are, I believe, held to a higher level.”
The Senate Armed Services Committee will hold a confirmation hearing for Defense Secretary Nominee Chuck Hagel at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 31st.
