For Jazz Appreciation Month, KIOS presents the SFJazz Center Opening Night Concert on Wednesday April 17th at 8:00PM. San Francisco has been a jazz hot spot for decades and now the city is home to the first stand-alone building built specifically for jazz. It's the new 700 seat SFJazz Center.
NPR Music, WBGO and WWOZ teamed up to present the opening night concert on the web on January 23rd. Bill Cosby was the host for an evening that featured a one-time-only gathering of jazz stars that included McCoy Tyner,Chick Corea, Joshua Redman, Bobby Hutcherson, Mary Stallings,John Handy, Pete Escovedo, the SFJazz Collective, and the Resident Artistic directors Regina Carter, Bill Frisell, Jason Moran, John Santos and Miguel Zenon.
