Significant winter storm impacting Omaha, Lincoln

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Up to a foot of snow is expected to fall in Omaha and Lincoln through Wednesday morning.

A Winter Storm Warning continues for the metro area through Wednesday afternoon, with a Blizzard Watch in effect Tuesday evening. Winds of 20 to 40 miles an hour will accompany the storm, creating blowing and drifting snow. NWS Valley meteorologist Kathy Zapotocny says forecast models predict the heaviest snow will fall in Omaha, Lincoln and points southward.

Zapotocny says wind chills as low as 20 degrees below zero are expected as the storm moves through. She recommends that anyone who must travel prepare an emergency kit.

Roads are snow and ice covered throughout the area. Snowfall amounts from three to five inches were reported as of midday.
