Solutions for Caregivers

According to the National Alliance for Caregiving, nearly 43 million adults in the United States provided unpaid care to an adult or disabled child in the last 12 months.

Matt Milam, Executive Director for UnitedHealthcare in Nebraska, says caregiving is often a full time job that can easily cause anxiety and stress.

Because of that, Milam says UnitedHealth Group recognized the need to support caregivers and are now offering a program called Solutions for Caregivers.

He says Nebraska is one of the first states in the country to offer this program to its customers.

Milam talks about the information people can expect when they use the online program.

"We’re going to provide information, a marketplace and support.  And information will be customized content, based on specific illnesses and challenges for the care recipients.  But it will also include articles and videos for family caregivers about health conditions.  For example, maybe Alzheimer’s, heart attack or COPD.”

Milam says there will also be case management services available in the form of in-person and telephonic support.

He says this is important to ensure the caregiver is following through with their loved one’s particular care plan.
