State Senator Tom White enters 2010 Congressional race

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – State Senator Tom White is officially running for the Second Congressional District.

White announced his candidacy Wednesday morning at the Omaha Press Club. He was elected to the Nebraska Legislature in 2006, serving on the Business and Labor, Revenue, Rules, and Urban Affairs Committees. In July, White announced the formation of an exploratory committee a first step toward a 2010 run.

White, a Democrat, says if elected he'll be an independent and effective leader. He says health care reform needs to address costs and ensure care for everyone. White calls current cap and trade proposals an economic disaster. He says Second District voters don't feel as though they're being represented in Washington.

Second District Congressman Lee Terry plans to seek re-election to that seat. He'll face a Republican opponent in Matt Sakalosky, an Omaha businessman.
