Steel, concrete emerge from the foundation at Omaha Royals' new home

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Papillion, NE – The Omaha Royals' new home in Sarpy County has a first base line wall and the beginnings of a dugout.

Royals' Vice President and General Manager Martie Cordaro says steel and concrete are emerging from the foundation at the team's new home in Papillion. He says this winter's heavier than average snowfall hasn't moved back the stadium's completion date. Construction is still scheduled to be complete March 15th, 2011. The Royals will pay their first game at the new ballpark in April 2011.

Omaha Royals players are wearing patches on their uniforms this year to commemorate the final season at Rosenblatt Stadium. Cordaro says events are planned to celebrate that ballpark's final year.

Construction also continues in downtown Omaha on a new ballpark for the College World Series. That stadium is also expected to be complete in spring 2011.
