Storms bring heavy rain, knock out power in parts of Omaha

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Severe thunderstorms with strong winds caused power outages early Wednesday morning in the Omaha area.

The National Weather Service says a 63 mile per hour wind gust was reported in Omaha at 11 pm Tuesday. The storms also brought heavy rain, which could add to flooding concerns.

Flood Warnings continue along the Missouri River at Rulo, Brownville and Nebraska City; along the Platte and Elkhorn Rivers; along Salt Creek in Ashland; and along the Big Blue River basin.

Dangerous lightning delayed the end of the College World Series game between Oklahoma and Clemson until 3:30 pm Wednesday. The regularly scheduled Florida State-TCU game is set to begin 50 minutes after the conclusion of the Oklahoma-Clemson game.
