Storms dump more than 5 inches of rain on Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The severe storms that moved across eastern Nebraska Tuesday drenched the area, and Omaha set a record for the day with 5.3 inches of rain.

The National Weather Service says Omaha received the most rainfall, but Blair received 3.8 inches of rain and several other cities received more than 2 inches.

Tekamah, Norfolk, York, Columbus, Fremont and Nebraska City all received between 2 inches and 3 inches of rain.

Grand Island, Wahoo, Valley and Aurora all reported just less than 2 inches of rain.

The heavy rains created some street flooding in Omaha and Council Bluffs, Iowa, Tuesday night, and prompted warnings about the possibility of more flooding Wednesday morning southwest of Columbus, Nebraska and in southwest Iowa and northwest Missouri.
