Storybook Characters come to life at the Omaha Public Library

Martha the Dog, Pete the Cat and Lyle Lyle Crocodile will all make an appearance at the Omaha Public Library’s Saddlebrook Branch this Sunday.

At the library’s annual Storybook Land Celebration, kids are welcome to attend and meet as well as take pictures with their favorite life-sized characters from children’s literature.

Julie Humphrey, OPL Youth and Family Services Manager, says kids will be issued a passport when they arrive.

She says as they walk around and meet the various characters, they can collect stamps.  At the end of the event, each child will receive a free book.

"Getting the children to engage their imagination that these some of these stories might actually come to life, really embeds them in the world of literature and makes them want to read and enjoy.”

The Storbyook Land Celebration takes place 11-4 on Sunday at the library’s Saddlebrook Branch.  The event is free and registration is not required.
