A summary of new census data was released last week

By Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – The Center for Public Affairs Research at UNO released a summary of new, detailed 2010 census data last week.

Researcher David Drozd says this is the final major wave of information. The report is broken down by gender, race, age and other key demographics. Drozd says data indicates the state's minority population has increased in all age groups since the 2000 census. He says the largest three counties in the state have more than 50% of the state's total population, "However when you look at the numbers of White non-Hispanics, the big three counties control more than 60% of the population that are in their early working years, age 20-24 and 25-29. And you can contrast that with those three counties only containing about 35% of the state's 85 and older population. It just really shows the differences in our state between the largest metro counties and the rest of the state."
